The was named for Marquis de Lafayette, a frenchman who fought int he American Revolutionary War. Today, this park to the north of the White House, serves as a beautiful place for people to view the White House. The park features a statue at each of the four corners of the park in honor of a foreign fighter of the American Revolutionary War including Major General Marquis Gilbert de Lafayette and Major General Comte Jean de Rochambeau of France, Brigadier General Thaddeus Kosciuszko of Poland and Major General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben of Prussia. In the center of the park, stands Clark Mills statue of President Andrew Jackson (pictured above).
